Many web designers and graphic designers are self-employed. This often gives them the flexibility to choose their own hours, run a business how they want to and even still look after their children whilst working.
There are pros and cons of working from home and below I have listed a few:
Pro’s for working from home:
- Choose to carry out a proportion of your work when you wish to. It may be that you have meetings and deadlines that need to be met in during the normal working day but then you can opt to work later in an evening or weekends to do work that requires no client input.
- Having total control over how you quote, manage and market your products and services. This can be a great way to set up a business, perhaps using your previous experiences to know what works and what doesn’t.
Cons for working from home:
- You may have clients that want to visit you at your premises, but if you work from home this may not be viable or professional. Also some companies are put off by it because they feel that you may not have the time required to complete their workload.
- Socially, you may miss out as a web designer working from home as you will spend the majority of the time on your own.
